Chris Butler

Chris joined Kain Knight Group PLC in April 2003 having previously been a Partner in another large City based costs firm and has in excess of 26 years experience in dealing with all aspects of legal costs.

Having been a Fellow of the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen since 2001 he became a Costs Lawyer of the Association of Costs Lawyers in May 2008.

Chris is a Director of the firm and is head of the firms London office where he has been situated for the last 11 years.

Chris is an accredited Mediator (having trained at the London School of Mediation) and is a skilled advocate often representing clients at court hearings predominantly at the Senior Courts Costs office. As an accredited CLSB (Costs Lawyers Standards Board) trainer Chris regular conduct seminars and talks to our clients and staff.

Chris oversees management of services provided to commercial law firms, corporate entities and in-house legal departments; from outset advice to funders and law firms on litigation budgets through to consultancy and representation in respect of court facing budgeting provisions and the more conventional law costs consultancy services within detailed assessment proceedings.

Chris’s specialisms include the preparation and opposition of legal costs predominantly in relation to high value commercial disputes in the United Kingdom but he has experience of dealing with costs disputes in other jurisdictions including, for example, the Channel Islands and the BVI. Recently Chris has provided costs advice to a well known Third Party Funder in a multi million pound costs dispute.
