PJ (as he likes to be known) was called to the Bar in 1989 having previously been a partner in a firm of Holborn solicitors. He took silk in 2013. PJ sits as Deputy District Judge in the London courts and has sat as a Bar Council appointed assessor for High Court costs appeals. PJ is also an accredited mediator with the ADR Group.
PJ is recognised as a costs specialist although he also practises in commercial work including professional negligence.
His costs practice has involved a number of appeals to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. His costs expertise has seen him advise and appear in other jurisdictions including Dubai and the Cayman Islands. PJ has been involved in a number of important cases concerning Solicitor Act assessments.
PJ regularly advises solicitors on bespoke CFAs, DBAs, retainers and assignments of CFAs. He is also regularly retained by one of the major third party funders to advise on costs issues.
PJ has successfully mediated costs disputes involving a wide range of issues.
PJ is a very popular and engaging speaker at seminars and has written numerous articles on costs related topics.
