Stephen Innes (2000 call) is a barrister at 4 New Square. His practice is in commercial dispute resolution, with his two main areas of specialism being professional liability and costs.
Described in the Legal 500 2015 as ‘extremely good on paper and very user friendly’, Stephen is regarded as being personable and easy to work with. He always strives to provide sound practical advice and to focus on a strategic approach to litigation.
In professional liability, Stephen acts with equal regularity for professionals or their clients and is often involved in related insurance disputes. Particular interests involve claims by mortgage lenders and wasted or third party costs orders.
Stephen’s costs practice regularly sees him in the SCCO and other courts for detailed assessment or other hearings relating to all aspects of costs. He is frequently instructed to attend costs and case management hearings. He has recently spoken on matters such as topical caselaw, Part 36, wasted costs, hourly rates, at the Liverpool Law Society costs conference, the ACL costs conference, in a Lexis Nexis webinar and at several seminars for solicitors firms. He is a contributor to the Lexis Nexis precedents in relation to relief from sanctions.
